After two summers without being able to welcome an overseas player, North East Cheshire Cricket Club is delighted to announce the signing of 25 year-old Australian all-rounder Manning Berry for the upcoming 2022 Cheshire County Cricket League season.
Hailing from Gerringong, New South Wales, Manning currently represents Northern Districts Cricket Club in the Cricket Illawarra competition and comes highly recommended for his qualities both on and off the field. He arrives to bolster a Jets 1stXI who performed impressively in 2021 on their way to a fourth-place finish.
Manning is a proven all-round cricketer with an excellent track record with bat and ball, gaining various representative honours for his club form including playing in the McDonalds New South Wales Country Championships. Highlights include a First Grade career high-score of 117 and a best bowling of 7-36 as part of match figures of 12-71 in two-day cricket.
Sadly, the current Australian season has been blighted by bad weather throughout the summer leading to minimal opportunities to add to these statistics. However, Manning has still excelled, showing particularly strong form with the ball as his right-arm pace delivered 16 wickets at 14.63 apiece. This helped take Northern Districts to Twenty20 finals day in the Greater Illawarra Zone but sadly they were defeated by just 8 runs in the Semi-Final.
In addition to his on-field exploits, Manning’s experience extends to captaincy, coaching with Cricket New South Wales, and even ground curation. He’ll be a visible presence across all club activities this summer and we wish him safe travels and look forward to his arrival before the Easter weekend.
