Following a glorious opening weekend in the sun, reality bit back as the Saturday rains washed away any chance of cricket for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rdXIs. Fortunately all other teams in their respective divisions were washed out too, leaving everyone to resume on the same footing in week 3. There was however cricket to be had on Sunday as the skies cleared and a good day was in prospect as the 4thXI travelled to Didsbury.
Didsbury v 4thXI
The 4thXI were making their club debut away at Wilmslow Road in a T20 against reigning champions Didsbury 3rdXI. In the end it was the hosts - starting their defence of the Jack Gardner trophy - who proved to have too much for the young Jets.
After a flying start, Didsbury were pegged back somewhat by a tight spell from Jack Chignall (2-15), posting 142 for the loss of 5 wickets in their 20 overs - 32 extras taking their toll on the final tally.
In reply Alex Dickman (17) started in typically solid fashion, but the rest of the reply fell away without another batsman troubling double figures.
The 4thXI were eventually bundled out for 49 with Bidwell (3-11) and Boorman (2-5) dominating the bowling card. The 4s will look to learn from this first outing when they play two more T20s on Woodford 3rdXI on Sunday and Stockport 3rdXI on Monday.
