This brings the cricket season to a close for the girls - and we’ve had another year of excellent progress. As usual the girls bring enthusiasm, energy, smiles and the occasional dance move to training but are all trying to improve their technique and match skills every time they train or play.
The season started with the girls winning the U13 tournament at Chester Boughton Hall. We entered three Cheshire leagues in 2022, U11 and U13 softball and U13 hardball. With a small player pool for U11 softball we didn’t play many matches, but several of the U11s played for U13 teams throughout the season as well as some in U11 and U13 mixed cricket. The girls won more matches than they lost and given we are playing U13 cricket with a range of girls from year 5 to year 8 - that’s a very good performance.
What really stands out about the girls is their team spirit, they are a tough team to play not just because of their cricketing skills, but it’s obvious to our opponents that our girls are a team, and greater than the sum of their parts. As overheard during one of our matches towards the end of the season "these girls are the team to beat!"
