North East Cheshire bowed out of the 1stXI UKFast CCL Twenty20 Cup with a home loss to Division 1 leaders Haslington on a sunsoaked evening at London Road, made to pay the price for a stuttering batter display that could only post an underpar 100-9.
The Jets only lost one wicket in the opening 10 overs but were limited to 50-1 at the halfway point having failed to take advantage of the powerplay. A manic effort to catch up the scoring rate only yielded the same runs from the back half of the innings and for the loss of a further eight wickets as only Chris Williams (28), Charlie Dahlenburg (21) and Danny Williams (14*) made double figures.
The visitors were put under some pressure thanks to a double strike in the third over and then accurate spells from Jamie Henderson (1-11) and Sam Waller (1-15) which took the game down to the final over. Despite a valiant effort with the ball the score on the board was simply too low to defend though and the key wicket of Ben Istead (39*) never arrived as he serenely guided his team home.
