The Club welcomes Jake Oakes to the Jets family for the upcoming 2025 season after his relocation to the north-west. For the past six seasons he has represented Streatham & Marlborough 1stXI in the Surrey Championship, primarily as a frontline seam bowler but with some useful lower order hitting to boot. Alongside his club commitments he has also been a pioneering presence in disability cricket for over a decade.
Born profoundly deaf, Jake is an England Deaf international who has also excelled in the recently formed Disability Premier League which combines cricketers from three different disability groups – physical disability (PD), learning disability (LD) and hearing impairment/deaf.
In the 2023 DPL final held at Derbyshire’s County Ground he plundered 32 runs from the final over of his side’s innings, clearing the ropes five times on his way to an unbeaten 39* from just 10 deliveries faced. Last year he also had the honour of playing at Lords, taking 1-30 as an England Pan Disability XI defeated the MCC by 5 wickets.
Having already seen his skills in action in preseason indoor training we look forward to seeing the contribution Jake can make in Jets colours this summer. After spells with both Middlesex and Surrey he now also joins up with the Derbyshire setup for 2025.
