The Jets Girls got the season off to a fantastic start by winning the U13 girls tournament at Chester Boughton Hall. Some tight bowling and a wicket for Praanjol in her first ever cricket match over kept Congleton to 29 which the girls beat with 36. The next opponents were the girls' eventual final opponents Widnes, who despite two wickets in an over for Eliza managed to muscle their way to a 15 run victory. Two tight wins against teams from the hosts followed, with another two wicket over from Lily, a debut catch for Emily (again in her first ever cricket match) and an incredible one-handed half-volley pickup in the field from Fern.
This set the girls up for a rematch in the final with the strong team from Widnes and their big hitters. 8 boundaries including 3 sixes in their six overs took Widnes to an imposing 57 although all the supporting parents agreed with our batting improving during the day that this was a winnable match. After a solid first couple of overs Georgina batted with great composure to hit consecutive boundaries and leave us with a challenging 25 to win off the last two. However Gracie made this look easy with a remarkable 38 from 11 balls, including four consecutive sixes securing the victory!
The girls played with their customary excellent team spirit and are excellent representatives of North East Cheshire Cricket Club.
