The U15s started their Cheshire League campaign with a win over Heaton Mersey on Wednesday night at an arctic DASC. Some good bowling from all contained Mersey to 71 all out with wickets to Ed Parkinson (3-6), Elliot Holt (3-8) and one apiece for Willis Brown, Will Westerby and Matt Bennett.
NECCC’s run chase started steadily with early contributions from Will Westerby (19) and Rory Caine (11) but it was clear that batting conditions weren’t easy as the junior Jets fell to 48-4 off 15 overs.
Requiring 24 from the final 5 overs, Matt Bennett took the lead with 13* not out, well supported by James Rolfe who both guided the team into the final over requiring 4 to win.
With James run out off the first ball of the over, it brought Max Waterman to the crease who quickly knocked off the runs with a straight drive boundary to see the U15s home with 3 balls to spare.
Great start to the season by the lads!
