With Wednesday evening training now in full swing, the women’s section of the club has seen a large influx of new players. Fixtures have also commenced in the newly-formed Cheshire Women’s Cricket League soft ball division giving opportunity for the squad to take part in competitive developmental fixtures.
The side registered victory in their debut outing when they took to the Parkside pitch at Macclesfield. The result was never really in any doubt as the Jets were too strong for the hosts with both bat and ball, winning the game by 43 runs. Women’s team captain Cheryl Waites led the way as top scorer with the bat, backed up by a strong allround bowling performance.
A much-changed lineup saw many Jets debutants for the second league fixture against Langley. Despite lack of match experience the Jets put in an excellent performance with Jones and Farrell leading the way with the bat and Fallon marking her debut with a wicket. Unfortunately the women fell to defeat through losing more wickets but the season has started on solid foundations for the squad to develop with more time, confidence and experience.
