The women’s team took to the pitch on Sunday for their first fixture to be scheduled within the ECB’s Women’s Big Cricket Month, this time against Broadbottom CC.
The pretty ground nestled in the High Peak was the venue for the ladies’ second win of the season which takes them to second place in the league.
The Jets were too strong for the Broadbottom side with every player finding the boundary on at least one occasion; the younger of the Waites family crossing the boundary rope six times from the 12 balls faced. The Jets also managed to take seven wickets in the match - two for Reed and team captain Waites taking three - under the pairs format of the game.
All the games in the league are being played to develop and promote women’s cricket within the club and across the county. As more and more players from the club are taking the step up from training to fixtures, it’s great to see debutants in each game - this week it was Heather Rooney who managed to equal her brother’s score for the Jets’ 1stXI on Saturday.
The next fixture in Women’s Cricket Month sees the Jets play their rearranged fixture against Toft CC before hosting a ‘Prosecco Festival” towards the end of the month.
