As part of the growing commitment to Women and Girls’ cricket at North East Cheshire Cricket Club, the Jets will be taking part in the inaugural season of the Cheshire Women’s Cricket League soft ball offering in 2021. 11 interested clubs have been split into two regional groups meaning that NECCC will be scheduled to face five teams home and away with the main focus on development and offering opportunities to players in a relaxed and inclusive environment.
As a result, the club is pleased to announce the appointment of Cheryl Waites as the Women’s Team Captain to lead these fixtures. Cheryl has been involved with the team since its inception and coached the U11 girls’ team during 2020. This appointment further strengthens the Women and Girls’ structure at North East Cheshire which already comprises Women's Development Lead Heather Mukherjee and Girls’ Development Lead Paul Owen.
Entry into the CWCL will also be supported by investment in new coloured playing kit from our supplier Icon Sports which will mimic the Men’s Twenty20 design and be available to all players on match days. Icon has also added women’s sizing to many of the club’s range of match and training gear available from their online store.
In addition to soft ball league cricket there are also plans in place to introduce greater exposure to red ball cricket and to continue participation in the Cheshire Cricket Board’s ever-popular Prosecco Festivals.
Red ball cricket will be supplemented by new protective equipment purchased via funding from the Poynton Area Community Partnership. Thanks to Poynton Town Council and to former England cricketer Lydia Greenway for her support in putting the kit package together via The Female Cricket Store.
