Tuesday night saw a pair of home fixtures for the 2nd and 3rdXIs as they began their campaigns in the T20 Knockout Cup.
2ndXI v Cheadle Hulme Ladybridge
A career-best 69 from Matt Wragg helped seal progression past an in-form Cheadle Hulme Ladybridge side who arrived at PSC having won all of their league games to date. Opening pair Wragg and Saul Gould (24) added a brisk partnership of 75 to lay the groundwork for a defendable total as North East eventually cruised to 162-7.
Boundaries were then in short supply as the shadows lengthened and the North East bowlers got into their work. They only claimed six wickets, led by Arjun Takiar’s 2-17, but only some late hitting from Atal Jan (31*) carried the visitors into three figures as the Jets won by a healthy 49 runs. Next up a short trip to Prestbury in Round 2.
3rdXI v Langley
In a repeat of the first home game of the league season, the 3rdXI welcomed Langley back to the DASC and turned in their most dominant display of the year to date. Early wickets for Nathan Warner (2-5) were followed up by a fine spell of 4-10 from Alex Oswell which included the key wicket of Letven (22) as the visitors failed to see out their allocation, shot out for 73.
Sam Potter then proved his half-century in the league fixture was no fluke, peeling off 50* to dominate an unbroken opening stand as the Jets won by 10 wickets. Andy Hadfield turned the strike over to allow young Potter to strike six 4s, setting up a home game with Bredbury in the next round.
